The Golden Route
The “Gyldne Omvei” is located in Inderøy Kommune in Nord Trøndelag. A number of participants offer a variety of cultural experiences such as craftspeople in their workshops, local food production, historic sites of interest, a gallery, art museum, sculpture park and good food.

Frosta and Tautra
Frosta is rich in cultural history. Here you will find the “Tinghaugen” – where Norway’s oldest court (from 600 AD) was located. Further on there are rock carvings and burial mounds from the Viking ages. On Tautra there are the ruins of a monastery dating from 1207.

Frosta 
   

Falstadsenteret
Previously a German concentration camp, this is now a museum and conference centre. Falstadbygningen was built as a school for “delinquent boys”.  In 1941 the facility was converted to the “SS Punishment Prison Falstad”.

Stiklestad
Olav Haraldsson was a Viking Chief and Norwegian King, also called Olav The Huge. After he was killed in the battle of Stiklestad in 1030, he was made a saint, and it is as Saint Olav the Holy that he is best remembered. Learn about an important period of Norwegian history at Stiklestad.

Oppdal

Rørøs
The mountain town of Rørøs is one of the world oldest wooden towns, and one of the few mining towns that has been listed as a UNESCO heritage site. The towns centre contains an unusually large and well preserved area of wooden buildings. 630m above sea level.

Hegra Fortress
Built in 1908-1910 as a defence against possible Swedish attack, following the dissolution of the Union in 1905. The Fortress is known for its heroic part in April / May 1940 when 250 men and 1 woman held out against German attack for 25 days.

Austråttborgen
One of Norways oldest estates and noble’s castle, with roots from the middle-ages. The current buildings date from the 1500 and 1600’s.

Statsbygd and Råkvåg
The ”Coastal Heritage” museum is located in Statsbygd and is one of the country’s largest coast museums. The museum has its own active boat-yard. The wharf buildings in Råkvåg are a part of cultural history, with large wharfs dating back to the “herring rush” of the 1930’s.

Løkken Verk / Orkla Industrial Museum / Thamshavn railway.
The local community of Løkken Verk was built up over 300 years, based on mining. The old mine is now a museum. From Bårdshaug at Orkanger you can catch the museums Thamshavn railroad – which was built to carry ore from the mines to Trondheimsfjord.

Transportation: Car or bus to Orkanger, and onwards with the Thamshavn railroad.
