Trondheim has a rich cultural life. The city has a modern theatre with a long history and a well-established position in Scandinavia.

The symphony orchestra is also popular and has been on many successful international tours. The city's concert hall, Olavshallen, has excellent acoustics and features top-line performers throughout the year. The Ringve Museum of musical history, housed in beautiful old buildings, has developed into a gem among museums.

The municipality's cinema complex satisfies a large and demanding public in all age groups. Trondheim Public Library offers far more than the traditional services, but it is also a comfortable place to just sit down to relax and read local, national and international papers.

As a result of the traditional celebration of St. Olav's day at the end of July every year, Nidaros Cathedral has developed into a thriving church music centre.

The fascinating works of Trondheim's textile artists can be viewed at the National Museum of Decorative Arts. The collections include tapestries where old patterns have brought new life to knitting traditions.

In the city centre you will find that Trondheim is a popular stop for many top performers in rock, jazz, blues, swing and much more.
