Art at Tiller Upper Secondary School

Gemini I and II
Artist: Espen Gangvik (2000).
These twin five metre high sculptures rise on each side of Tiller Upper Secondary School. The first causes one to think of the adventurers of old sailors navigating according to the constellations. It symbolizes the task of school: To stimulate the search for new knowledge. The second sculpture is placed behind the large school building, where its architectural nature plays in harmony with the body of the building. It provides associations with the vocational studies programmes. The artist characterizes the visible struts and frames as an "industrial and quasi-mechanical" expression. Both sculptures are made of aluminium. When natural oxidation has taken place, the tubes will be painted flat red to emphasize the main form.
