Art in Stavne Churchyard, Memorial

Artist: Eva Kun 2008. Art consultant: Annika Borg.

The churchyard at Stavne has kept its characteristic features and time-worn atmosphere and is still a peaceful place off the beaten track, sheltered by spruce against busy traffic outside. In the angled corner of the churchyard, Eva Kun has designed a memorial consisting of semi-opaque glass surfaces that create a room in which to find peace, perhaps while sitting on one of the benches that are also part of the work of art. Even the sharpest sunlight is subdued here, with the space obtaining a golden hue from the evening sun or drops of rain falling like tears on the mourners. There are 96 nameplates mounted onto the transparent walls, which are divided into groups of three.
