Art - Double Stroke
Artist: Marit Wiklund (1996).
The artist won a closed competition held prior to the World Skiing Championships in 1997. Her design was praised for its dynamics, which is something typical of skiing. This sculpture group is centrally located between the Nordic Skiing Arena and the ski jump. It was the artist's first major assignment in her home city. Her realism and the individual characteristics of her models are different from that found in more academic naturalism. She uses many motifs from working life, often of an everyday character. Her ties to the political left are obvious, particularly in her works from the 1970s.
