Art - Hull
Artist: Jorun Kraft Mo (2000).
This sculpture has become a meeting place for people visiting Solsiden (a shopping mall) at Nedre Elvehavn. This was previously the site of Trondhjems mekaniske verksted (Trondheim Mechanical Workshop – a shipbuilding company), where for many years keels were laid and hulls made. Hence, the sculpture may serve as a memorial of what once was. Mo was one of three artists asked to sketch a decoration of the open place by the main entrance to the shopping mall. In her work with the open space surrounding it, Mo worked together with landscape architect Christine Gjermo to place old machine parts from the ship-building days as decorations along the edge of the dock on the south side of the buildings.
