Art - Memorial Stone to Johannes Schiøtz in Elster Park
Artist: Jens Munthe Svendsen (1900).
Johannes Schiøtz (1835–97) was the Chief Forester in "Søndre Trondhjem" (Southern Trondheim) County from 1861. He is said to be the instigator of the forest planting in Bymarka (the forest hills and areas on the edge of Trondheim), which in the middle of the 1800s had been nearly denuded of trees. But Schiøtz's assistant, Kristian Elster, led the planting work, so the park bears his name. The memorial stone has a portrait medallion also made by Jens Munthe Svendsen.
