Art - Red Deer Stag Running
Artist: Arne Vigeland (1983).
This naturalistic group of animals, which is lightly stylized, stands on a low stone slab by the county administration building. When it was put there, there was some disagreement about the location. Some felt the sculpture did not appear at its best, being almost in the street, and called it "Red Deer Stag on Stone Ground". Vigeland has made similar animal groups that are located other places in Norway. The red deer in particular is one of his favourite motifs.
