Art - Equilibrium North
Artist: Rolf Schaffner (2000).
This six metre tall sculpture, which is situated on the highest point of Ladehammeren hill, is made from four stone blocks. It may appear to look like a gigantic bolt or nail driven into the ground. It is called Equilibrio (Equilibrium). The sculpture is one of five peace monuments that have been placed (or that will be placed) in Europe: In Mallorca (the artist’s home), Russia, Ireland and Germany (the artist’s country of origin). The sculptures are to be placed in such a way that the lines between them form a cross, each arm of which will point to its respective compass point. The idea is for the monuments to symbolize the wish for equilibrium and harmony in a world full of war and hostility.
