Art - Johan Nygaardsvold
Artist: Per Palle Storm (1986).
Johan Nygaardsvold (1879–1952) was a Norwegian Labour Party politician and served as Prime Minister from 1935 to 1945.
This statue of him was made on the initiative of the labour movement’s organizations. The artist had also previously worked on monuments for the labour movement, one in front of Oslo City Hall and another in front of Folkets Hus (now Oslo Congress Centre). He was a resolute champion of a naturalistic form and greatly influenced Norwegian sculpture through his many years as a teacher at the Academy of Fine Art.
